Worcester Polytechnic- Helps Students to Earn Graduate Degree Through its ADLN

The Worcester Polytechnic Institute was established in 1979 and its advanced distance learning network (ADLN) helps you earn your graduate degree or certificate.

With the help of its advanced Distance learning Network, WPI delivers the similar courses, material and content that you would receive on campus.

The Institute’s faculty work with an instructional design team in order to determine the best technologies to use in the delivery of their courses via distance. This approach to distance learning guarantees that the courses are kept current and the latest technologies are used.

At WPI, you get quality education whether you attend classes on campus and from distance.

WPI proudly offers the complete educational experience from beginning to end, including:

  • Similar admissions standards

  • Similar high quality, full time faculty

  • Similar classes

  • Similar degree or certificate

The classes begin in September, January and May and its semesters are 14 weeks long, whereas the summer semester is 7- 10 weeks long. All the courses have an internet component and the class participation also takes online.

Papers, projects, as well as exams are required and the class teams work on joint assignment virtually.

Delivery methods

WPI has adopted a campus wide learning management system, which offers both faculty and students with a consistent framework for their distant courses. Besides this, the institution has an in- house instructional design team that helps the faculty take full advantage of a mix of media to deliver the courses to the students around the globe. Most ADLN courses combine a number of delivery methods.

Learning management system

All the classes use a learning management system, which is referred to as “myWPI”. It provides an easy- to- use interface for the web based course content as well as a suite of collaboration tools that will help to foster interaction among faculty and students.

ADLN Formats

All the distance courses are online and they utilise a variety of technology for delivering the course content. WPI’s learning management system; ‘MY WPI’ is used for managing class communications, make any announcement if required as well as deliver the course content over the internet.

Video- There is some courses that utilise video as primary methods for delivering the course content to the students. In particular, most courses in the engineering programs are taught in a TV studio at the WPI’s Worcester campus.

Besides this, the video content is then made available to the students in an archived stream over the internet.

Video conferencing- In some cases, WPI delivers the distance courses via fully interactive video conferencing sessions.

Using the state- of- the- art video conferencing system, Worcester communicates with other sites that have videoconferencing equipment, which is H. 320 or H.323 compatible.
