Education System in Mumbai - An Educational Hub
Mumbai, the Financial Capital of the country, is reputed as one of the best city in South East Asia known for its impeccable education system.
The schools in Mumbai are either run by Government or BMC, called Public schools, or are privately run by trusts, called private schools. All the private schools are affiliated either to the Maharashtra state Board- SSC board, or to ICSE or CBSE board.
Education system in Mumbai is little different from the other parts of the country. After ten years of education in school, students have to enrol themselves in Junior College, where they have option of choosing one stream from the four: Science, Commerce, Arts and Law, to complete a professional degree course.
All professional colleges and other institutes are affiliated to the University of Mumbai, listed amongst one of the largest university in the world in terms of enrolment for degree courses. The university has been given a Five Star rank by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It boasts of 36 departments, 354 affiliated colleges and two post Graduate centres. Then there is SNDT Women’s University, especially opened for women.
The city is home to several reputed institutes in several fields. Indian Institute of technology, Bombay rules the chart in Information Technology Colleges. More IT institutes are coming up, as government has allotted the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation a sum of Rs. 5 crores for the same.
Mumbai is also known as the ‘Research Hub of India’, as there are several premier research institutes, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre to name the few.
There are several top class B-schools and Management Colleges, which offers courses in Marketing, Information management, international Business, etc.
Mumbai has a very youthful and lively feel to it, due to the massive student population that comes from all around the year to earn their degrees and laurels.
